Construction of Australia's largest smallgoods manufacturing facility at Wacol, Queensland has entered its second stage.
Smallgoods manufacturer Primo said the $131 million facility will allow the company to consolidate three separate plants operations under one roof and deliver a three-fold increase on its existing production capacity.
Stage one of the Wacol project involved the construction of a raw material freezer and distribution chiller. Stage two will involve the construction of a smallgoods, value-added meats, ham, bacon and salami processing operation as well as corporate offices.
Construction of the 40,000 metre square facility will be conducted by food industry design and construction company Wiley.
The facility is expected to create 600 new jobs in Queensland.
Family-owned Primo is headquartered in Chullora, New South Wales. The Smallgoods manufacturer owns and operates a number of manufacturing plants, packing facilities, distribution warehouses and abattoirs throughout Australia.

The addition of 600 new jobs in Queensland will bring the total number of Primo employees in Queensland to around 1677.
In Queensland, the company currently employs 277 staff across its existing manufacturing facility at Wacol as well as distribution facilities at Hemmant and Cairns, plus an additional 800 people through its Hans Continental Smallgoods operations.
