New safety regulations for Queensland

The Queensland government has reminded workers and employers of the transition into the Workplace Health and Safety Regulation 2008.

The Workplace Health and Safety Regulation 1997 expired on 1 September 2008, and was replaced by the 2008 regulation. For the most part, the 2008 version makes the same provisions as the older one.

However, it has removed the rural industry exemption from existing regulatory requirements over the next two years, and there have been changes in numbering within the regulation.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland will be reviewing and updating all the forms and documents on the departmental website to make them consistent with the new regulation.

In the meantime, the contents on the site should be used in conjunction with the Comparison Table.

The Workplace Health and Safety Regulation 2008 will operate with the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995 to help manage health and safety risks in Queensland workplaces.
